Interview with Matt from LaunchBox Digital on WGB Blog!

My interview with Matt from LaunchBox Digital is live on the WomenGrowBusiness blog. Hard to believe so few women applied to the program last year, I hope this post encourages more women to participate.

Food for Thought: Information Architecture & the Global Financial System

Oh...it's a sh*t river!Image by Chadica via Flickr

Question: If information architecture is the structure and skeleton of a system, then is the financial system just a amorphous blob? Is anyone doing anything about it?

A thought occurred to me last Friday, while watching a presentation on Electronic Medical Records given by John Lambeth, CIO of Erickson Retirement Communities: The transition to electronic medical records is literally going to shape, and act as the foundational structure of, the redesigned U.S. health care system.

As Mr. Lambeth pointed out in his presentation, there is relative consensus that the current health care system is broken, and that designing and implementing a patient centered, digitally based, information architecture is a key component of fixing the system as a whole.

Which leads me to my original question: What about the financial system?

What information architecture currently underlies the global financial system? Will the smart people responsible for creating the policies that will ultimately reshape the U.S. financial system pay as much attention to the role of information infrastructure as those redesigning the health care system? Or will it remain as it appears to be now, a big mess?

I really don't know the answers, but if you have any insight, please do share in the comments section.
